  1. Hi all, I have just joined the forum as I feel I need a little extra help and would like to chat to like minded people who enjoy the same things as I do. I hope not to be a pest but I am knitting my first thing other than a scarf and I am really struggling. It is a matinee coat for a friend's baby. So I am doing my first sleeve it says: Beg with k row, cont. in st st inc 1 st at each end of 5th(7th, 7th) row and every foll 10th(10th, 12th) row until there are 39(43,47) sts. I am following the middle size so hoping to end up with 43 sts. So I have inc the 7th row (youtube helped A LOT!) and I am wondering does the pattern mean I increase again on row 10 or does it mean row 17? Thank you ever so much in advance, Meg

    Toughest Challenges for Novice Knitters

I am still really new to knitting and am working on my first project (other than scarfs of st st). So having learned to knit and purl, I decided to start my first scarf. Having cast on 85 stitches and started working for hours on it, I phoned my gran and said I was giving up and how could anyone knit a scarf = it was taking ages! She then explained that 85 stitches was a serious joke and that a scarf should really only be about 30! I am now on my 3rd 50g ball of wool and the scarf has been abandoned as it was not cost effective to keep going with it. Lesson learned lol!! Meg <3

    knitting newbie requiring help.

Are you using different coloured wool to the original or is it another ball of the same colour? Don't cast off, I don't know if this is the right way but my scarf looks seamless by just knitting in the new ball like you are continuing from the old one, leave a tail and just wrap the wool around. The tail can be sewn into the scarf when you finish. As I said, I have no clue if that's the right way or not but works for me Meg <3
