    Pattern Confusion.

Well that's silly why couldn't they have just written it out the same way?

    Pattern Confusion.

I'm currently knitting the left front of a cardigan and I'm having some difficulty with the instructions for shaping the neck. The shaping starts on a wrong side row, at the neck edge and runs as follows: Cast off 14 sts patt to end. Next Row:patt. Work four rows casting off four sts at beg of next and foll 2nd row. To me this sounds like I'd be decreasing on the right side shoulder edge of the 2nd and 4th row. Surely not as I'm supposed to be shaping the neck? The next section is similar but talks about foll alt rows. I might just be being incredibly dumb but I am totally lost with this.

    Pattern Confusion.

Thanks yes that does make sense. The next section is basically the same but says alt row instead of second row, do I do the same for that?

    Help! Abbreviation confusion.

I'm currently knitting All Dolled Up from the Woman's Weekly Best of Our Vintage Patterns and I'm having a little difficult with one of the pattern abbreviations. At one point the pattern instructs knitters to k1d, which the pattern information says k 1 st next row down. I'm confused, surely this is either going to create a dropped stitch/ladder or leave me with extra stitches. The pattern accounts for neither of these things. What does this mean and how should I do it?

    Jack frosthe

I love this, you must be so skilled, whenever I try to make one of Alan Dart's figures (I'm assuming he's an Alan Dart, correct me if I'm wrong) they always end up looking as though they have had a horrible accident. I particularly admire his fingers, they look so dainty!

    Throwing it down Thursday

Aloha. I find myself between projects having just finished a blanket that I've been knitting on and off for two years. I'm waiting for a bumper delivery from Deramores! I have almost finished the Classic Baby Bonnet from the August magazine, but there isn't going to be enough yarn to knit the icords and I don't have anything that matched in my stash. So frustrating!
  7. I'd love to knit with British Yarns, but yarn that comes from British Sheep, that is spun and dyed in Britain is just too expensive for me.

    (Yet another) Sidney Owl

Hello again! It's been a super long time since I posted here. I've been busy studying. However I will officially be finished Uni in less than two months now and I have most of my assessments complete. In saying that, knitting Sidney has prevented me from finishing an essay on punk music and feminism. I think Sidney is much more fun!

    (Yet another) Sidney Owl

I was hesitant to post, after seeing how many Sidney's there already were, but I am super chuffed with him. I think it's one of the best kits LK have supplied for a long time.

    Sirdar slinky?

I'm trying to track down this yarn for a cardigan/jacket knit (it forms the collar of the jacket), but it's really hard to find. Does anyone know where I can buy it, or where I can find an alternative yarn? There's a link below to the sirdar page for this yarn. Sirdar Slinky

    Sirdar slinky?

Ohhh okay! I should've been able to work that out. I think I'll give that a try, thanks

    Sirdar slinky?

I have thought about that, I can get funky fur from deramores, but I've never used a fake fur (is it called eyelash? I have no idea) yarn before. Wouldn't it look really obvious?

    Sirdar slinky?

I'm not sure, because the pattern uses 10mm needles for the fur collar but I see from your link that funky fur is knitted on 4mm needles. I'd never use funky fur for anything else so I'm not sure I want to buy it if it wont work :-S I really want to knit the jacket though

    Knitting double?

I'm just about to start knitting a cowl/snood in Rowan Kidsilk Haze, the pattern is "knit double throughout", now I understand this instruction, it's just I'm slightly nervous because this is the finest (and most expensive) yarn I've ever knit with and I want to get it right. Any tips anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated

    Beret 0-6mths

Snuggly Dk is supposed to be the most popular baby yarn in the UK, but I'm not so sure, it is lovely and snuggly and soft, but I have had major problems getting the tension right with it. It is lovely and snuggly and soft though ... *sigh*

    Slouchy Sunday

It's been a gorgeous day here today, but a cloud has been cast over head by my decision to scrap the Martin Storey blanket i was slowly slowly knitting ... I'd chosen a budget yarn for it because it needed a looooot of the stuff, and it was all I could afford. Unfortunately the slightly nubbly texture of it and it's tendency to split meant I kept making mistakes in the pattern and I was becoming very frustrated. So poor blankey is going to be frogged and I have to find something else to do with 2100 m of acrylic yarn.

    Unbright Wednesday

Hi everybody!!! It feels like forever since I posted on this forum. The truth is, I haven't been buying Let's Knit anymore, (I'm on a really tight budget and seeing as it had been months without starting a new project from the magazine, I decided to not buy it.) but I really missed this forum so I thought I'd come back onto it. I'd like to announce my proudest knitting achievement yet, a pair of socks! They're just plain white with a boring rib cuff but they're my socks that I knitted myself and I am quite chuffed.

Left to right or right to left?

Alright, quick question, this is something that has been really puzzling me ... do you lovely people knit right to left or left to right? What way are you supposed to knit? I.E. what way are patterns written? Also, when knitting a cardigan say, and the pattern refers to front left is that the left side as I'm looking at it or the left side of the person wearing it when it's finished?

Left to right or right to left?

Yes I am a lefty. I thought I was just knitting continental style, but when i found out that's only to do with what hand you hold the yarn in, I guessed something was up. It was confusing at first but I think I've got the hang of it now

    Sock Yarn

Speaking of socks, does anyone know of a very very very very very easy sock patterns? I'd love to start knitting socks for myself, but I always find the patterns so confusing when I read them.

Left to right or right to left?

Well I've come to the conclusion that I should switch to knitting right to left, obviously projects I've already started, e.g. the dreaded throw will need to be finished left to right, but I've done a few swatches and knit up a simple flower corsage right to left, an I think I've got the hang of it. Thanks for all the advice.

    Sophisticat hat mark 2

It’s cold, I needed a new hat, and I am completely broke, and being the stereotypical thrifty Scot, I ripped back an old shawl that I’ve never worn, to get enough yarn to make a new hat. Unfortunately from the picture, in which my good friend the Heffalump is modelling the project, the colour gradation's are not that clear, and neither are the cables, but they are clearly visible “IRLâ€Â, as it were. I had made this pattern before, but a dropped stitch had gone unnoticed by me and unfortunately the hat has almost totally unravelled itself when I pulled it out the drawer for the chilly weather.
  24. I'm knitting the Cornelia throw by Martin Storey, and I am terrfied it is the biggest project I've ever started, I hope to god I've got the patience to finish it!

    Martin Storey Cornelia throw.

I have done with previous projects, but I don't have them in the right size for this project, if I continue getting wrist pains I'll need to invest in them.
