When I cleared a drawer out the other week I found this bedspread that had been crocheted in cotton for nanny over a hundred years ago for her and grandpas wedding. Her sisters made it for her and I remember it being said it took over three years to do as the had a wool shop in Newark, Notts and knitted and crocheted clients garments for them. my uncle was born in 1909 followed by my aunt in 1912 and my father as an afterthought in 1916.
When I was given it When I was about 12 and didn't realise the significance of its age and let it soak in an evil brew of bleach and soap powder plus a dolly blue bag but thankfully is ok. I also have a tablecloth from around the same era and a shawl that was knitted for my uncle and passed down to me as a baby.

Hello, I gave up trying to get on here the past couple of days. Lisa made just over £250 for her coffee and cake fundraiser last Saturday, I thought that was good for an open house do. The money is going to the Team Rossi Foundation (local charity) that gives children having cancer treatment treats. Nothing big but a day out, a concert or just smething simple like books.
I'm pleased it's cooler for a few days, it was 87f in the conservatory compared to last Tuesday when it hit 120f. I loved the hot weather when I was young but as the years pass I tolerate it less and less.

Eliza condolences to you and your family on the passing of your aunt. I won't say I'm sorry as its a blessing and as you say you wouldn't let an animal suffer as she has. Even though she was distressed I hope she felt your presence and took comfort from it.

Suzie im sure Alex's knees will soon mend with some fresh air around them. My girls still have scars from what seemed like permanent grazes especially when Sally-Ann tried to walk up a slide in her roller skates. How's the dressmaking coming along?

Denise, it's good that you are going to get help with your diabeties, nice to go to the podiatrist you should be walking on air afterwards.

Liz I hope you are keeping better now and how is the quilt getting on.

Here is my little daredevil on the big slide at an adventure park we went to Sunday. We had all been keeping an eye on her and her friend then she vanished, she shouted ready steady go and was hurtling down the slide. She went straight back up again, she really frightens me.

Hello Eliza (or should I call you Billy no mates) lol. Nice here again but not to hot. I've had a lazy morning apart from a walk with Leah. I took her to our local wildlife park for an amble around the lake, fed the ducks and geese (don't like geese) and of course an ice cream from the little kiosk there. I sat on a bench while she went on all the aparatus on the kids part. Although I know in my mind she is safe it still scares me especially when she goes on the big stuff. I now what my parents and Margaret went through with me, I was always at the top of a tree oooops.

Eliza what a wait for a local register of death, unfortunately like most things there is a queue to register. I don't know wether district do things the same as Nottingham but I didn't have to inform authorities of Tony's death they did it all for us. I know it sounds materialistic but have you taken the vase from the home? as we forget so many things at these unhappy times, sending
hugs and prayers to you. Xx

Hi Liz hope you are ok X

Denise I agree with you about the no fear thing, Margaret reminded me of what I used to get upto as a child lol. I have really sused you with play dough etc! it's you not Sophie that plays with thing s lol.

    Take care all xx

Good morning. Just a quick one from me to show you the finished bit of lace I've been working this week. The ends need sewing to the start, then gathering along the straight edge to form a flower, which I'm not very good at. I'll do that after work.

Have a good day all - especially while the sun's out!

Morning ladies, sunny here at the moment, I'm not doning much today as I have a day full of meetings tomorrow and saving my strength for them.
I've knitted a couple of butterfly stitch hats which I had a pattern for and made up a mitt pattern for the pink one and the one that looks orange isn't, it is deep cherry red.

Has anyone heard from Sarah? They have those terrible floods in Virginia with people having to be rescued fro their homes.

K&F wow you did do well yesterday, don't go and knock yourself back though. Love the lace you are making, I was having lessons at our lace hall some years ago but it closed so I didn't continue.

Eliza I do wish we had more crafty places like yours. Nottingham was Based mainly on lace making butt we have lost all that now. enjoy your pizza.

Well done Denise on the complete house decorating, I don't blame you for cracking open a bottle of champers to celebrate. If I forget later on have a great holiday.

Linda I hate pigeons, they are rats with wings, I hope your cauliflowers survive.

I haven't had any breakfast so going to do a crab omelette for brunch and then dinner at tea time.
    Have a good day

Morning ladies, lovely and sunny here but rain forecast for this afternoon. I've been busy both working and sorting out my retirement this week which fingers crossed is the end of July. I won't have a lot of extra time as I have decided to do my masters in English history. I wanted to do this or design when I first went to university 45 years ago but my mother wouldn't hear of it.
Sally-Ann has had her 20 week scan and I'm delighted to say there will be another granddaughter at the end of October. I don't know what Leah will make of her cousin she doesn't like me holding any other baby or toddler saying 'my nana not you'.

Linda I loved you different crochet and put it on my to try list. There is a site that shows all sorts of different flowers, I have put a pic of it below. Well done on sticking to your guns with your wedding outfit, you will feel comfortable and enjoy it more for that.

Eliza you do have a lot of craft places where you are, I very envious of you as we have one arts centre and that's it. I think clothes get put back on hangers where the tag says one size and it's a different one.

Back to the grind for a bit and then out to lunch with a client.
    Have a great day x

Hello, I spoke to soon yesterday when I said it was fine, since about 5pm it's rained for 24 hours again. We were ok but so much more flooding all around.

Congratulations Suzie and now dh, love and happiness to all of you. I bet Alex and Ellie we're excited and plenty to tell at school of their weekend.

Liz if you like trousers how about an Indian style long top and trousers with an over the shoulder scarf/stole thing. It's very fashionable at the moment and there are some beautiful designs. Again a dressmaker could make one for you.

Denise it takes me back cutting shapes out for pictures. I've put a wet play day box together ready for the summer holidays from preschool, I don't think Lisa may be happy that I've put polymer clay and air dried clay in the box oops.
Your quiche sounds lovely and so much lighter without pastry and using cottage cheese. You will have to post the recipe on the baking thread.

Your top sounds Eliza, you will have to get your camera sorted.

Lisa sorry I can't help you, I leave that sort of thing to the kids to do for me.

Linda yum yum home grown strawberries and like the ripple pattern.

I'm going to do a bit more of Leah's blanket if it cools down a bit as its so muggy now. I have finished the eight sets of boots for charity sales and going to try a new child's hat pattern.
    Have a good evening

Hello, fingers crossed the rain has stopped, we were very lucky at work as the flooding stopped literally yards from our door. The pub in the photo is more or less next door to us. Nottingham uni was also hit with walls of water, this isn't a cascade but the steps going down to the library which was also flooded. That was Thursday then yesterday we couldn't get into work because of an accident between a car and motorcycle where they had to close the road in both directions. I will be glad when this week is out of the way. This little engine puffed into Nottingham Station which lifted my spirits especially as it stayed for a little while and with not many there we could get a good look around her.

Linda I watched Tim Peake on catch up, a wonderful moment, his family must be both relieved and very proud t have him home.

I like your chemise K&F, it looks very stylish. Don't go overdoing it and set your health back.

Eliza I knew it was world wide knit in public day, no good around here as everything is still sopping wet.

I'm going to look for a baby pattern I want to knit in a slip stitch pattern, I was sure it was in a folder but no so I will look in the next hide hole where I put them

    Have a good afternoon.

Hello again, yes it was just to hot in the office as the air con isn't working and the sun streems through the window all day. I sent everyone home at 2.30 and all quite happily took work with them both for this afternoon and tomorrow. The company who maintain the air con (at quite a cost) have promised to come out tomorrow and fix it after I had a ten minute rant at them this morning.
Good excuse for me to sit and finish some knitting and then I will work when it has cooled down tonight.

Suzie I love your bouquet, it will also be a nice keepsake along with the girls posies and df's buttonhole. What annoys me is that there is a minimum working temperature but not a maximal one, you will have to ask if you can have a fan on your desk.

Eliza I'm sending you a pm about claiming the state pension by phone, if your hubby is nervous I believe you can do it on his behalf. I loved the sewing bee chalange with the scarves and have been thinking what I could do with a vast collection I have, I'm making a dress out of one I made for myself in around 1965, it's all bright colour stripes along with some silver ones. I like the sewing bee but not keen on Esme, I preferred the other lady who seemed to have more positive encouraging remarks. Well done on taking the shoes to the charity shop, I'm not as brave as you and keep thinking I will wear some even though I bought them in the 1970's.

Tracey how is Jay? I asked my non mum what she used when she had shingles quite bad and she recommends a propolis cream which is what the bees line their hives with and is very sterile. Apparently it was like a miracle soothing the rash.

Denise I'm like you with hats (Disney do a hat that's 50 factor) in the sun and also slap on the 50plus suncream on little ones. Leah also has the safe sun swim suits for in the paddling pool (she calls it a piddling pool). When mine were little I used to make sure they had a t-shirt over the top of a swimsuit.

Back to my knitting and then decide what to have for dinner, my kitchen is in full sun now so it will be something quick.

    Have a good evening x

Good morning, the sun is trying to get through the odd break in the clouds. A work day for me (from home) and I need to do some food shopping. I enjoyed the pool exercises and swim yesterday but was exhausted afterwards so didn't do much apart from catch up on Silent Witness and start some small lavender key rings.
I take vitamin D as my body doesn't retain it, 800iu per day prescribed by my doctor, she said anything over 1500iu per day long term could be dangerous when I said I could get them from the health food shop. I also take bee pollen and Royal jelly, the bee pollen is for hay fever and helps the digestive system and Royal jelly helps the immune system and is a natural inflamitory. They also use Royal jelly for ostioporosis, cholesterol and diabeties as it reduces the blood sugars.

Nice to see you on here Sarah and I hope your health is improving, you will have to get out in the sun for vitamin D. The little hats range from 3ns to a normal baby size, until Jo took me on the ward I couldn't believe babies could be so small and fit the tiny hats. How is your granddaughter? She must be getting big now.

Eliza did you get your zip? You will have to post a picture of your dress and jacket when completed.

I presume it's work, cuppas and knitting for you today. Enjoy the cuppas and knitting and the work goes quickly.

Denise Al.i sell no sugar biscuits and surprisingly they are quite nice, I buy them for Leah as she likes to dunk in Lisa's cuppa. I used to have add cal with vitamin d for a while when I had a course of steroids for the FM, then was told it interfered with warfarin so stopped having them. My nails and hair benefited from them. Are they going to reduce your steroids bit by bit or will you come straight off them? When you have finished your sons bedroom could you pop down here and do my sitting room for me please. I have sent off 15 boobs t your charity.

I hope everyone has a good day X
This is one of the key rings I'm making along with some lavender bags, they will go to a coffee morning for our breast cancer institute.

Good morning Eliza and everyone else, it is supposed to be cooler here but seems very muggy to me. I'm working from home today and almost finished everyone I want to so its breakfast time (fruit and 0% Greek yogurt). I have lost the weight I put on while away and on the way to another half stone by doing the 5/2 diet. It works for me but everyone is different and wonder if I'm doing right after the new guidelines from the obesity lot. Apparently we should be eating a high fat low carb diet to lose weight and colesterol is good for us, one person made a coffee and put a big dollop of butter in it which made me nauseous at the thought of it, each to their own.
I have mended all the little hats, some only needed an inch or two sewing up and others had to have the ribbons removed and sewn from the top. I also finished a c2c baby blanket last night, oh what a lazy day I had lol.

Eliza I never have the right zip for something and in the past resorted to doing little fabric loops and covering buttons to match. Sorry about your fabric disaster and the printer, I think you can buy fabric to print on.

Denise eeeek with the diabetes, they give you pills to cure one thing and they cause so,etching else. With a bit of luck you may be able to come off the steroids at some point. One good thing is that it can be controlled by diet and you don't need injections.

Back to the grind for me (ha ha) for a bit and then I think I will go for a lunchtime swim and pool exercise session. It's not as hard as it sounds, it is gentle exercise movements in the warm pool followed by a swim.
Here are the 115 little hats completed and the c2c baby blanket folded in four.
    Have a good day x

My back (touch wood) doesn't feel as bad this morning but I'm still going to take it easy. I have over a hundred neonatal hat to remodel where they either haven't sewn at the back up or made bonnets with ties, me and my big mouth volunteering to do them, I will try and do them today ready to give back on Thursday when I see Jo again.

Hello again, It's weird weather here, warm, heady but dull. I have had an interesting few hours with Leah after picking her up from preschool. It's nice that I can have a reasonable conversation with her now, some bits are still gobledegooch but in the main I know what she says. The only thing now is we have to watch what we say as the piggy who has big ears misses nothing and repeats what you say.

Eliza I often find pale colours do not show on photos unless you use a camera that has a filter on it.

Linda have you tried old cd"s or DVDs as a deterrent to the birds? We had a cherry tree on the allotment and that was the only thing that stopped the birds. Pity I don't live nearer to you I have spring water bottles all the time that you could have used? I hope the cable hat os going well and yummy yummy to an omelette.

Tracey enjoy your day, is Jay off as well?

Denise please, please don't give me shocks, I seriously thought you were ill! Leah goes to preschool four mornings a week from 9-12.30 and then ballet for an hour and a half on Saturday. Inspired by Sophie understanding two languages I have started to teach her French and then a friend will take over who teaches it. After your experience with doctor Sophie a nurse/doctor set is off Leah's present list from me lol. Btw I wish I did get the rest of the day to me, unfortunately or fortunately family especially M & C still take up part of my daily routine. This is the ploughman I am cross stitching and another I did of a fishing shack.

Liz I the CB site very slow at times and it has been signing me out or coming up without the forum. I hope Niamh enjoys her brownie camp and has a good experience from it. I don't go to bed very early and would sleep less if I did, I think it goes back to when I was at uni and working nights at my parents friends night club and then fostering tiny babies when I was up with just a few hours sleep

My roses are In ful bloom now, with hundreds of flowers out.

Hello it's patchy sunshine here with a heavy air, we need a storm to clear it. It was work this morning and after some lunch I am going to have a go at the any blanket I'm knitting. It is 64 patterned squares from a pattern i haven't used before, the first thing was to have the pattern enlarged as I couldn't see the tiny print.

Denise I have a couple of cross stitch projects on the go and I recon they make the holes smaller not me that needs stronger glasses. Thanks for looking into deleting photos for me. Leah likes watering the plants but she isn't interested in helping beyond that, something always distracts her.

Are you any better Liz? If you just want to sit then do so the dusting will still be there tomorrow.

I hope work goes quickly Tracey. I did think what were you doing working on a Friday and then remembered it is only Thursday silly me.

Eliza I haven't tried printing onto fabric but would like to try it so I can put little messages on quilt panels.

The cooker time has gone off for my lunch, only a jacket potato with cheese and tuna. Have a good day x
