Whip up this stylish accessory in just a couple of hours

What you need...
  • Cotton fabric: patterned fat quarters, plain
  • 40cm square cushion insert
  • Quilt wadding
  • Snap fasteners

  • 5mm seam allowance used throughout, unless stated otherwise.
instructions
  1. 1. Cut out a 41cm square of pale patterned fabric. Snip contrasting fabric, 17cm x 41cm, plain lining the same size, and a coordinating 8cm x 41cm strip. Sew the strip between the two pocket pieces, right sides together. Press and fold in half, right sides out, to create a border band.

    2. Slip a rectangle of quilt wadding between the layers, topstitch close to the border seam and zig zag round the other three sides to hold the wadding in place. Pin the pocket piece to the bottom of the main square of fabric, right sides uppermost on both pieces.

    3. Cut two 26cm x 41cm plain fabric rectangles. Double hem one of the long edges on both pieces and place face down onto the cushion front, matching the raw edges so that the hems overlap in the middle. Sew around the cushion cover.

    4. Turn out the cover through the overlapped back pieces and press. Topstitch a narrow border around the cover. Attach snap fasteners to the overlapping hems of the back panels to hold them closed.
