Keep little toes snug as a bug with a pair of sweet crochet bootees

What you need...
  • Yarn, Yeoman Yarns, DK, Crilly Baby: cream, silver, mint, viola
  • Crochet hook, 3.5mm

  • DC double chain
  • HTR heel turn row

  • SIZE
  • 0-3 month size bootee measures 10cm long and 13.5cm around widest part of foot.
  • 3-6 month size bootee measures 11cm long and 15.5cm around widest part of foot.
  • The numbers have been placed in brackets.
instructions
  1. Bootees - These bootees are work in the round, joining the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch at the end of each round. Make one chain before starting the next round to ensure level rounds. Bootees are symmetrical and both left and right foot are the same.

  2. Sole - 4ch and make into a ring with a slst.
    Round 1: work 6dc into ring.
    Round 2: work 2dc into every st, 4ch and join with slst to make a second ring.
    Round 3: work dc into first 12sts, work (5dc, ch, 5dc) into the second ring.
    Round 4: work *dc, (2dc), rpt from * into first 12sts. Work dc x 3, htr, (2tr), (2tr), (2tr), htr, dc x 3 into the 11sts of the second loop.
    Round 5: work *dc, dc, (2dc), rpt from * into first 18sts. Work dc x 5, (dc, tr), (2tr), (2tr), (tr, dc), dc x 5 into next 14sts.
    Round 6: work dc x 7, htr, (2tr), tr x 6, (2tr), htr, dc x 7 into first 24sts. Work dc x 6, htr, (2tr), tr, tr, (2tr), htr, dc x 6 into next 18sts.
    Round 7: work dc x 10, (htr, tr), (2tr), tr, tr, (2tr), (tr, htr), dc x 10 into first 26sts. Work dc x 8, (2dc), (2dc), (2dc), (2dc), dc x 8 into next 20sts.
    Stop here for a finished sole for size 0-3 months. Add this round and work numbers in brackets thereafter for 3-6 months fitting.
    Round 7a: work dc x 10, (2dc), dc x 8, (2dc), dc x 10 into first 30sts. Work dc x 10, (2dc), dc x 2, (2dc), dc x 10 into next 24sts.

  3. Upper - Round 8, 9 and 10: Work dc x 54 (58), changing colour if desired.
    Round 11: work dc x 8 (9), miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 6, miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 8 (9) into first 30 (32)sts. Work dc into next 24 (26)sts.
    Round 12: work dc x 6 (7), miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 6, miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 6 (7) into first 26 (28)sts. Work dc x 10 (11), miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 10 (11) into next 24 (26)sts.
    Round 13: work dc x 4 (5), miss a st,dc x 2, miss a st, dc, miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc, miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 4 (5) into first 22 (24)sts. Work dc x 9 (10), miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 9 (10) into next 22 (24)sts.
    Round 14: work dc x 2 (3), miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 4, miss a st, dc x 2, miss a st, dc x 2 (3)into first 16 (18)sts. Work dc into next 20 (22) sts.
    Round 15: work dc x 1 (2), miss a st, dc, miss a st, dc x 4, miss a st, dc, miss a st, dc x 1 (2) into first 12 (14)sts. Work dc into next 20 (22)sts. This completes the upper of the bootee with a total of 28 (32)sts. Work rounds around the top of the upper to the desired height. One round of trebles
    topped with a round of double crochet would be good for the short boots, or six rounds of trebles to make a turnover cuff.
