Create a beautifully engraved cake board
Entertain friends in style this coming Easter with a fabulous home made cake board. Whether you choose to use it to present chocolates, slices or hot cross buns, guests are sure to be impressed with your beautiful handiwork! All that’s needed is a Dremel Engraver, which can also be used to decorate a whole range of materials such as metal, plastic, glass, ceramic and leather.
Start by placing a plain round wooden cake board on tracing paper and drawing around a section of the circumference. Draw a simple daisy and leaf motif just inside the curve, then trace it onto the board. Take the engraver, set to speed four, and hold at a slight angle. Rest the tip at an angle and, starting with the outlines, engrave the complete design. You don’t need to use pressure, just work steadily and smoothly, as if drawing with a pencil. When complete, use a burnishing tool to smooth the engraving and give a neat, professional finish. Finally, remove any remaining pencil lines with a soft eraser.
The DREMEL® Engraver and DREMEL® 300 Series (with burnishing head) are available from all good DIY stores. To find out more, visit www.dremeleurope.com
