Step Into Christmas

Get prepared for all things festive!

It may seem like Christmas is ages away, but don't be fooled. With shopping, decorating and cooking to consider, the family orientated holiday can turn into a bit of a nightmare if you don't plan ahead. Make your Christmas a creative one by putting some of our favourite crafty ideas into practise; you'll have it all wrapped up in no time.

Something Sweet

The idea of cooking a huge traditional dinner can be daunting, but if you stick to simple recipes and try not to over complicate things with fancy additions it doesn't have to be too hectic. If you fancy putting a modern twist on dessert, or simply can't face another helping of Christmas pud, worry not. Lakeland have a fantastic range of easy recipes that are just the thing. From delicious cakes to delectable biscuits, you could even gift wrap a range of yummy confectionary and present it as a special token. See http://www.lakeland.co.uk

Deck The Halls

If last year's tree is looking a bit sorry for itself, transform those boring boughs with a collection of vibrant handmade decorations. There's endless possibility for unique designs. Try painting a clear bauble and adding a splash of glitter, or baking gingerbread men finished off with a loop of ribbon and coat of varnish. Wrap up chocolate brownies or biscuits and hide them between the branches, instead of using shop-bought sweeties. Papercrafters can also put their own personal touch to proceedings with 3-D sculptures or origami pieces hung from metallic thread. It's the ideal way to jazz-up the living room and make use of all those crafty scraps from the work box.

All The Trimmings

Once you've put some crafty touches to the tree, the rest of the room might need a little something extra too. Complete the overall festive effect by creating some bunting. Knit brightly coloured triangles and stitch them together with ribbon, or use paper instead. For a seasonal table setting, try embellishing a plain runner with Christmas motifs, sequins or a pretty sparkly trim. Adorn a traditional fire place with a handmade wreath, combining a contemporary feel with bright shades, and arrange fairy lights around frosted windows for a cosy, welcoming glow.

Under Cover

Try being a little bit more experimental with your wrapping. In spending an extra few minutes on each gift you can really give it the wow-factor, showing eager recipients how much you care. Create fancy bows from luxury ribbon, and stitch on sequins for added sparkle. Make gift-tags from funny photographs by scanning them onto card, drawing in a border or writing a witty caption.
