Discover how to create a fun castle shelf
If you want to make an extra special unique gift for your little one, then what could be lovelier than this magical fairy castle? The fantastic shelf design can be screwed straight onto a wall, so it doesn’t take up too much space in the bedroom. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to put together, too.
Use a jigsaw to cut two pieces of 12mm MDF to make the front of the turrets. Measure then mark out the door and windows. Drill holes just inside the pencil lines in each corner of the window and the two lower corners of the cubby-hole. With an appropriate blade, use the jigsaw to slice out the window and cubby-holes. Carefully cut the arch shape for the door, and gently sand the edges of the door and doorway.
Cut the turret sides, shelves for the cubby-holes and roof pieces all from 12mm MDF. Screw together to complete the turrets. Trim sections of MDF to create the two upper shelves that join the turrets and screw in place. Cut a further piece to go right across the base of the unit, then screw in position. Lie the shelf face up on a large section of MDF. Draw around the edges, then add cloud shapes at the top and a hook board area at the bottom. Cut the backboard out using a jigsaw, then screw in place from the back. Sand the edges. Add pegs or hooks onto the bottom part of the shelf to hang wings and other clothing on, then paint in cheerful colours.
