You'll definitely take first place with this fantastic hand sewn medal card!

Medal

1 Cut a circle, 7cm diameter, from walnut felt and trim around the edges with pinking shears. Trim a slightly smaller, seven petal flower out of baby pink felt, then blanket stitch around the outline using cerise embroidery thread.

2 Snip another circle, 2cm in diameter, from yellow, and trim around the edges with pinking shears. Place it on top of the flower, then sew a heartshaped pink jewel button in the centre.

3 Stitch seven mother-of-pearl buttons in a flower formation around the outside of the yellow felt shape. Finish the design by sewing seed beads around the edge.

4 Cut a strip of pink satin ribbon, 9cm long, and snip a 'V' from one end. Do the same for a piece of marigold ribbon, 10cm long. Sandwich the straight ends between the pink petal shape and the walnut felt base, then glue together.

5 Finish by attaching a yellow butterfly button at the bottom of the pink ribbon, then attach a brooch pin to the reverse.

Card

1 Take a piece of bright card, 22cm, and fold in half. Cut a 25mm slit, 25mm down the spine. Snip pink polka dot ribbon, 23cm long, and insert it through the opening.

2 Fold the ribbon horizontally around the outside edge of the card, then bring it back inside. Fix in place with an overlap on the inside, using double-sided tape.

3 Make two holes in the card where you would like the medal to hang. Thread the brooch pin through the openings, and close it securely to finish.
