Hi all,

I’m wondering if someone can give me any advice on die cutting machines? What are they? How do they work? Are they pricey and are the parts for them pricey?

The only reason I’m asking is I am wanting some fabric flowers cutting out and someone has suggested I buy a die cutter and cut my own out but I’ve no idea what they are! Will they work on fabric? I’d probably just be cutting cotton fabric and maybe felt, but nothing thicker than felt.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Michala

Hi Michala. I love my Cuttlebug die cutter but to be honest I’ve not tried felt or fabric in it so I can’t help you as far as that’s concerned. Hope someone can give you more info soon.

Thank you all for your comments. I have bveen given a link to a site selling big shots. I’ll have a look and see if I can justify the expense!

Hi all,

Me again! I’ve decided to order a Big Shot, I’m just hoping I get enough use out of it. Anyway I’ve been looking at dies and was wondeing if anyone knows of anywhere where they are cheaper? I’ve looked onEbay but they dont seem that much cheaper. Also I really want 656640 Bigz Die - Tattered Florals by Tim Holtz, but it is out of stock everywhere I’ve looked. Does anyone know where I can get one from? Or does anyone have one they no longer want please PM me smile

Thanks
Michala

Hi all,

My Big Shot has arrived! I have been cutting out shapes with the die I bought but I am sooo confused with all this die lark!

Are any dies compatible with a big shot? Or do I have to buy just Sizzix ones (which will work out quite pricey!) I am completely in the dark on this one so any help or advise would be fab. The lady who runs my local craft shop tried to explain it to me, but what she said just went over my head as I think she thought I already had some knowledge on die cutting!!

Also I have seen a video on You Tube that shows how to make a fabric brooch, I really want to give it a go but the die the lady uses only seems to be available in America. The die is 115970 Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Design Bigz XL Die - Flower Folds - does anyone know if this die is available in the UK but maybe under a different name? I’ve emailed Sizzix about it but they haven’t got back to me.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated before I go insane trying to make sense of it all myself!!

Thanks

Michala

Hi Michala I think the big shot takes most of the dies,
you just need to add or reduce sheets of spare card to get thickness right
if it doesnt cut , it takes a bit of practise if usung different dies as they are all different thicknesses
Write down as you use them what you need to cut and then you can refer back to it next time,
hope this helps xx
