I started a baby shawl when I was pregnant with my DD 11 years ago and due to loads of morning sickness and pregnant brain I could not concentrate on the intricate pattern. It never got finished and I found it recently during my sorting. Am thinking I should try and finish it as I still have all the wool for it.

Anyway I would like to know what the longest time is that you have taken to finsh a knitting project?

21 years! It was a lightweight summer jumper in Seaspray (Patons or Sirdar?) that I started but then got lost in two house moves and a humungous stash! Finally finished last year when I proudly put a photo on this site. I'd put on over two stone in the meantime but luckily the design was a baggy style so had a bit of growing room! I have promised myself never to let this happen again. Hmmmm, we'll see smile

You must finish your shawl, it'll give you such a sense of achievement. Good luck!

Wow congratulations on getting your jumper finished! I don't feel so bad having the shawl sitting part finished for so long now!

Hmmm well I think probably about 4 months for me but then I have quite a few UFOs so if I do complete those then time taken to complete a project will be considerably longer than 4 month LOL

My mum started knitting a jumper for my brother when he was 11 and hasn't finished it yet - I'm sure she has the wool in the attic but I think it would be a very long wip if she did complete it as he's 35 years old now!!!

Anyway Karryn go for it if you still like the design grin

I started knitting a jumper whilst in New zealand for my husband back in 1991.. still not finished :( Its a difficult one as he died 16 years ago and having re-found it recently I find myself pondering on what I should do with it.. its beautiful yarn.. bought in NZ but black, so really hard to knit with.. totally mixed emotions about it

Jenny I think I would want to either finish the jumper and wear it even if it was too big or knit something for myself - personally speaking it would be a nice remembrance. This may not be ideal for you but that's what I'd do anyway smile

I think about three years!
When I was working full time, my days were long and stressful and demanding, all I wanted was more time to knit but I was generally too zonked by the time dinner was over. And so a Sirdar Romance polo neck jumper stayed on the needles so long the wool was discontinued! Eventually I got some but it was a different lot and I was never pleased with the finished product after all that confused !!!!!

VL - 21 years!! Wow that IS a record grin
Jennybloggs - I would agree with Suzie, I'd finish it and wear it myself, as a snuggly reminder of him (((hugs)))

Oh dear Dreamy 3 years is a long time! I never found much time for knitting when I was working either, especially just after Ellie was born!

I have a jean greenhowe grampa dumty that I started knitting when i used to travel to work on the train. I stopped travelling about 18 years ago to have DS. I finished knitting it about 3 years ago but have only half sewn it up so it is still sitting in the bag. I HATE sewing things up! I want a sewing fairy! shut eye

Squeakie go on, you know you want to sew the rest of it up! Or maybe you're waiting for a nice number like 20 years LOL

Oh you should deffo sew it up Squeakie, you can always send it off to Postpals or some other charity and some grateful child will get to play with it, a much nicer prospect than grampa dumpty sitting in your knitting bag for another 2 years! smile

I started knitting a matinee set for my friend's baby, she's 14 now, it's still not finished. I've moved since so don't even know what happened to pattern and wool. UFO's are the story of my life.

I knitted a lovely yellow jumper for my daughter when she was about 3-4 years old but never got round to sewing it up. She's 22 now, but the jumper is finally finished and being worn by HER 3 year old daughter! grin

At least that's one FO to tick off my (l-o-n-g) list of UFOs confused
