I have only just seen the post - including the fact that I am getting the blame for leading Louise into temptation
. But there was probably not much convincing need anyway
.
On a more serious note, I have seen the Sizzix Sidekick only on websites and once in a shop. It is indeed quite a small machine and - in my humble opinion - only really suited for embellishments.
Machines like the QuicKutz Epic Six will cope with cardstock up to 6” x 12” (the Epic has a 6” slot). The opening for the Cuttlebug is slightly smaller. Other popular machines are the Big Shot and the Wizzard.
I am using my Epic mainly for nesties and their QuicKutz equivalent, smaller dies for letters and embellishments or with embossing folders. When it comes to embossing folders I can only talk about the QuicKutz ones, as I do not have any other make. QuicKutz are having border embossing folders (approx. 2” x 12”), small 2” x 2” folders and folders of roughly A6 size (the A2 embossing folders). For the Epic Six you can also get a letterpress, but I have not got it and not seen it in real life.
You can usually find the Cuttlebug around the £60 mark and the Epic Six around the £70 mark. I am not so sure about the prices for the others.
Perhaps watch out for machines on QVC and Create & Craft, at craft shows or in shops. You could then see how they are all working, how handy or bulky they are and which one is to your liking.
