hello, just got back from picking up my new machine which is very old but surprisingly in good condition. One of the plates near the needle is missing but hubby going to see if he can make one for me so it’s not dangerous. I have just worked out you fill up your spool how funny I thought it was very out of this world. I stood thee for about ten minutes trying to work it out but because I have had modern machine it wasn’t hard to fathom. I am very pleased with it i am going to try and get it working using a pair of tights as the belt until I get something to use as a belt. I don’t think I would be able to still get a belt for it joanne x
the best bit is that I have found some instruction on the net but because they are someone’s photo’s of the book I’m going to have to write them down I can’t print them off. joanne
Oh my word Joanne, you’ve brought back some memories for me, my Gran had a machine that was similar to this one but where yours says Jones her’s said singer. We spent hours sitting on the treadle plate and pretending we were riding a horse as it moved even if it wasn’t set up.
Joanne,
I am delighted for you.
I have a similar treadle sewing machine by Necchi.
It works and I use it regularly.
Do you want me to go looking for a drive belt for you?
PM me the length and just maybe I can come up with one in a month or so!
Have you had a look at pinkbubble’s blog?
So helpful, honest.
Enjoy your new machine.
Hi kate that would be great thank you if you could find one I will find my tape measure and measure later and pm you I too will look out for a drivebelt. I’m going to get the metal painted and the wood stained . It’s going to look fabulous thanks again joanne x
Got these pics of mine Joanne.
You might find them interesting.
The belt is a square cross section!
Good luck with your metal painting and wood protection.
wow ! it looks fabulous. I have just emailed the place where my machine was made originally it its now the brother factory , they do have some spares for the machine I have like slide plates bobbins I have asked them if they have the belt and I would need new needles and maybe a spare bobbin or two. i have just been on another site and just for the bobbin it’s £30 but it’s for a singer machine. It does however look the same, The same website sells drive belt for a singer that was £9-00 i will see what the email comes back with. It sounds promising though to be able to get parts joanne x
Wow Joanne
You have been busy and turning up all sorts of useful places to get parts.
Hope you can get all the parts you need.
Finding a source for slide plates and bobbins too!
Well done in your searches.
I have my great great nans one, it is a singer like Joanne’s but it isn’t working at the minuite though, when i have some time i would like to get it working again, i also have my nans old machine to that works but is jolty when used, so needs some sorting out still with that one.
Beautiful well made machines that stood up to most things, not like some today!
I am hooked now after getting the one yesterday I have put an ad on a site I use for a hand crank machine. Someone has an old singer machine for sale electric I’m hoping she’s going to email me back as at moment i have no machine at present. Joanne x
Congratulations on your new/old machine Joanne. They are just lovely aren’t they.
My fave machines are my treadle and a very very old frister and rossman handcrank with mother of pearl inlay. There is something about them that is so intriguing and dare I say contagious. My desire for one machine has turned into a bit of an obcession with them including getting non working machines going again. I am no mechanic so if I can do it anyone can. Just be sure to have the wiring checked on any electric one you buy. 2 of mine needed some wiring replaced before they were safe enough to even turn on.
Enjoy your new baby and I hope you get the parts soon so you can get playing. I have mostly singers, but if I can help in any way just let me know.
