Can you recommend a paper trimmer to me, please ?

I have bought a couple of ones from Hobbycraft (their own make) and they are rubbish.  The first one I had didn’t cut at all straight and the one I swapped it with is like a guilotine and that spoils the edge of the card when you cut it and I’m so fed up with travelling 60 miles to change them each time !

I have seen a Woodware paper trimmer that you can buy lots of different wheels for to give different edges which is currently out of stock and when I spoke to the place that is selling it, they said it is very popular and is very good and this one does cut straight and is a good cut.  It is out of stock so much because it is so good.

Does anyone have this paper trimmer ?

Look forward to hearing from you.  grin

Mine is so old now I am not sure of the good ones these days.  Mine is a Dahle - but I am sure they aren’t as good these days.  I do have tiny fiskars one that is dead handy for small bits.

I wonder if it is worth a stroll around Staples and see what they have - rather than a craft shop iyswim.  Mine came from there but craft shops didn’t sell them back then anyway!

To be honest I love my guilotine, but it is a good one and wouyld have cost a lot of money, but I bought it from a friend for £25 so was lucky it is called X-acto it’s very sharp & also has a red lazer light {which is run by battery} to aide exact cutting. It is big, so not easily portable for taking to craft groups ect, but I wouldn’t be without it.

Other very good ones on the market are:
Purple Cow make some fab paper cutters
Making Memories & Dove craft do very good ones
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend really and how portable you want it to be too.
If I come across anymore to recommend on my ‘surfing’ travels, I will add them to the thread ;0

One thing to bear in mind though, and I don’t know if other members here have found this to, but we tend to get accustomed to our own equipment. I have used other peoples while at clubs and just haven’t gotten on with them at all, while the owner of it uses it perfectly. I think that this is down to repetion of using it, rather than the equpiment itself. (a bit like using someone elses veg knife, it just don’t feel right LOL }

Good luck on your hunt for the right tool for you LOL

I just got a cheap one from the works but it is great, £10 it was, if you want a better one, they use the fiskers one on QVC but I have not tried it, xx Maggie

I have got the Finger Guard paper trimmer from Woodware and all blades apart from the scoring blade - and I just love it. I have also got two Fiskars trimmers, but hardly ever use them now.

I just find it strange that it is supposed to be sold out. The local craft shop, where I got it from, has never mentioned anything like it. And I have never had any bother to get spare blades or spare cutting strips. If they do not have it in the shop, they order it in for me. The stuff then usually arrives within a couple of days.

Ooer, I bought a papercutter from hobbycraft and I love it!  And I am NOT a fan of Hobbycraft, just had some vouchers to spend.  The bibster swears by her fiskars (I think) paper trimmer, but it doesn’t cut any fancy edges.

Not tried the woodware trimmer… but if it is sold out then it sounds like a good buy.

I think I got mine out of Lidl ... it has 3 different blades ... a wave, a straight and a perforation.  I tend to use the wavy one the most and use a craft knife and steel ruler for sraight edges ‘cos I can’t be bothered swapping the cutters over LOL!

I have a few different trimmers. A guillotine, carl cutter and a mini fiskars photo trimmer. Just a few days ago I bought a fiskars ultimate craft trimmer. I love that I can measure from either side of the cutting line without having to turn the whole thing around. It also comes with a scoring blade and plastic guides that sit on the top allowing you to cut different angles accurately. I think you can get other blades for it too, but I plan on using it mostly for scoring and straight cutting.

If you do a google search and add the word review to it you should be able to find reviews on the products you are looking to choose from.
