Hi everyone. I have just copied over a few excerpts from a post Jenny started off under the Knitting & Stitching thread then the Curtain Capers! post. I thought that it might be useful. It is edited, to see the full post go to Knitting & Stitching then Curtain Capers!

In the short term the best advice I can give you would be to go to your local library and get out as many soft furnishings books as your card will allow.

I am a book addict. But it can be very expensive buying book after book and finding that there are only one or two projects in the entire book that are any good or of any use :( Go to your local library and get as many books as your card will allow out. If you find there is a certain book or books that you keep on referring to then they are the one’s to seek out and buy. What I consider a good book you may not. People learn differently. Some people learn best from detailed instructions and others learn better from detailed step by step photographs. So save yourself some money.

Oh I forgot to say. Ask the librarian to look up all of the available soft furnishings books. They usually spread them out between all of your local libraries. She/he will be able to tell you of any other local libraries that have other titles and you can pop over and get them or for a small fee they can have them sent over from another library for you they can also reserve them for you again for a very small fee and it’s a lot cheaper than buying book after book that you won’t use and the money you’ve saved can be spent on actually making something
Do you have a Borders book store near to you? I lovvvvvvvvvvvve Borders treat yourself one day or night as they are open late. Grab a pen and paper (for writing down books titles you like) and a bit of cash for a couple of their delicious coffees and muffins and go for a few hours. They are the only book shop I know of that actually encourage people to sit down and read not quick give use your cash and get out. The stores are just full of people sitting on chairs and even sitting in the book aisles just reading. A great way to check out new books and therefore when you do decide to buy you know that you are going to get full use of them. They encourage kids too and have children’s corners and teenage corners so if you have kids and want to take them along the great. I take my children all of the time and they love it.
If Borders ever advertised for people to go and sit in there and read and review books all day long I’d be there like a shot. It is just such a chilled out place.

i love borders too for that reason reading a book there just to get a feel for it is usually a big no no in bookshops but not there.
