Hello everyone,

I’m Melissa Hyland, the deputy editor on Make Jewellery magazine, with a request for all you beady types out there! As you may know, we have introduced a new feature called ‘Jewellery SOS’ where we get a panel of experts to answer any queries relating to jewellery making - we just need more to send to them! So if you have any burning questions about types of beads, findings, techniques, anything at all, please email them to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with ‘Jewellery SOS’ in the subject line and we’ll get our experts to provide the answers for you. Thanks for reading this and I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you Sarah, we’ve been hearing a lot from readers who are new to jewellery making, so hopefully this be a useful feature in the magazine.

I have trouble with bead sizing and find it difficult to gauge them on paper size charts, I think a bead measurer would make an excellent free gift?

Hi Junie,

Thanks for posting to the forum. So far, we have already featured a Bead Loom masterclass in issue 6 of Make Jewellery, plus an accompanying project by expert Dorothy Wood to make bead and ribbon bracelets (Looming Large). We will probably feature more bead looming projects now and again in the future, so keep visiting our website to check for the latest updates!

Best wishes,

Melissa Hyland, Make Jewellery

I’ve seen how to make wrapped loops on beads but can’t manage to do it. Am i using the wrong thing (tried in with normal head pins) or am i doing something wrong?

Can we perhaps have more chainmaille projects? There are so many great patterns, but descriptions are often poor or confusing. Detailed step-by step instructions with photos would be good.

Could it perhaps become something like a monthly feature where you are presenting a new pattern in each issue?

Hiya,
after reading Emily davies article on her trip to the Brighton Bead Shop i was wondering, are there any tutorials online on making you own findings? here in Aberysytwyth we dont have a beading workshop as far as i know so have no means to learn for myself. it would be much cheaper and easier if i could make my own instead of having to buy findings in bulk to ensure i have enough for my jewellery makes.
Thanks

Sorry to anyone for the confusion. I have now sent a PM to Melissa concerning a question for the jewellery magazine. No, I don’t make my own findings at all.

Hiya,

I’ve had a go at weaving beads on a loom, and love the effect, but I’m struggling on how to finish it off.  The books I have descriptions but not much in the detailed photos which I really need.  Would really like to finish off the one sat on my loom :o)

Hi Just thought of another question while reading the make jewellery collection. What exactly is ‘work hardening’, how do you do it and do you need special tools (it mentions a steel block and hammer- can i just use a normal hammer? do i need the block?)???
Thanks very much
