Hi everyone,

I am looking for some help from anyone who has made it or who has the first issue of Sew please 

Yesterday me and my mam made the twirl around wrap skirt from the first issue of Sew but we stumbled across a few problems as we didn’t have the magazine we used the instructions off the website.

Ok I had the right size material and everything but the website gave no instruction about how big the outer circle had to be from the centre point so we just took it to the largest we could ie towards the edges of the material. By doing this the skirt seems to have ended up decidedly diddy, it says the pattern is for 6-16 and I am a 6 and this skirt is quite short on me and I am only 5ft 2ins!! Not that I really mind as it has turned out really cute in the end but I was just wondering if there are any more instructions in the magazine article? The one on the website looks like it is knee length…mine is quite above the knee and I only used a really soft poly cotton so I am baffled! It also doesn’t even mention attaching the banding at the top which isn’t too helpful…good job my mam has made them before and knew what to do!

I will post a piccie of me modelling it tonight as I am at work at the mo!

Any help is really appreciated…why didn’t I just buy the mag?? Arrrrgh!!

Hi Aims,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I haven't made the skirt myself but I have just checked Vicky's (the designer) original text and she has said that your piece of string should be just over half a metre, I'm so sorry this was left off the magazine project and the website project. So when you make your outer circle it should be about 1m in diametre (50cm either side of the centre point).

And on looking at the website project it seems that the last step has been left off the end, which is where it tells you how to add the waistband. Many apologies! I will endeavour to get both of these pieces of information added to the website project and will post a sticky in the Sew section of this forum to make other readers aware.

I do hope that helps, if you have any other questions please let me know!

Thank you sooo much Emily!

That really helps, we were very puzzled and just fashioned our own length but it did turn out perfectly...just luck I think he he

Its a fabulous project and I would definetely recommend you make it smile I am going home to make another tonight!

Thanks for giving us such a fabby magazine...it has encouraged my mam to get sewing again, so much so that she is getting a new machine off my dad for her birthday!
