Hi
I was hoping someone could help me. Im currently knitting Eleanor Pattern in size 0-6 month from the Baby Knits booklet - July 2011. I really love the design and would like to knit one for my daughter in size 6-7. Can anyone help with how many stitches I would need ?
Thanks

Hi Jogodk & welcome to the forum

I don't have the pattern, so I can't give you exact figures, but if you download the Yarn Conversion chart from a previous thread, you should be able to use it to work out the correct number of stitches to cast on.

Enter the same tension in the Original and the Conversion.
Enter the number of stitches and rows over the pattern in the baby version then play around with the cast on figures in the conversion until you get the correct size for a 6-7 size.

If you need any help just ask grin

Hi thanks for the help, I am leaving this part of the pattern for now to continue with the first bit again but will keep a copy of your notes!

I am now working on the back of the cardigan which is simple enough for the first few rows.

Cast on 51 stitches.

Row 1 - P4, K3, P1 * P1, K3, P1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, P3.

Row 2 - K4, P3, K1 * K1, P3, K1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, K3.

Row 3 - P4, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, P1.
*P1, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, P1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, P3.

Row 4 - K4, P3, K1 * K1, P3, K1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, K3.

Rows 1 - 4 sets patt.

Working in patt as set throughout work 18 rows.

1st question, do I do 4 rows then the 18 or just the 18?

Shape armholes as follows:

Work 5 rows dec one st at each end of every row until you have 41 sts left.

2nd question, I am looking at k2tog or p2tog to decrease the stitches at the end of the 5 rows but am unsure if i should carry on from what would be Row 3 of the pattern (row 19) or if I go back to row 1?

Thanks for you help once again.

I would say 18 rows. If they wanted you to work 22 rows, I think they would write it as 'work 18 more rows'

Working in patt as set throughout means you continue with the 3rd row of pattern.

And don't forget to match up your decreases on each side - SSK/K2tog and P2tog/P2togtbl grin

I am knitting a jumper for my lo doll, have knitted the rib and now the pattern reads

Next row(increase):Rib 0( 1-1), *inc in next st, rib 1(2-3), inc in next st, rib 2(2-3) ; rep from * to last 4(6-6)sts [inc in next st, rib 1(2-2) twice. 41(49-59) sts.

Am stuck!! Great start I know, have knitted a few dolls clothes before but just don't understand what I am supposed to be doing

The pattern I am using is Peter Gregory no 7130

Any help would be appreciated

Hello Kristy and a warm welcome to the forum grin It all depends on which size you are knitting ? ie 0(1-1) 0 is the first size, 1 is the 2nd size etc. If you are knitting the first size you would rib the first st inc in the next st once rib 1 inc in next st rib 2 , rep from * to last 4 sts inc in next st rib 1 twice...leaving you with 41 sts. The numbers in brackets are the next two sizes. Does this make any sense ? confused

Well just follow instructions for first number inside the brackets. Just read it through carefully and follow it step by step and you will see where to increase. You will be guided by the following stitch to keep in pattern

Hi there, I'm sorry to butt in but I am having a headache just thinking about this. I bought a pattern and yarn for a long waistcoat for myself, six months plus and I'm still struggling with it, so much so that I have ripped it all out and am looking for a new pattern, I have looked all over the internet for a DK pattern for about 4 balls of 100g yarn. I was hoping someone here might be able to help because I think I'm too close it. Please bear in mind I'm still not as good as I should be with other stitches apart from knit and purl so I think that I would like to do it in crochet.
Thanks
Jaye

Thanks

I have now done my 18 rows in pattern and have been practicing the decrease of the other 5 rows and cannot seem to get it right.

Row 19 or 1st row of the decrease is as per Row 3 of the pattern as earlier confirmed.

Row 3 - P4, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, P1.
*P1, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, P1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, P3.

I have knitted P2TOG, P2 to replace the first P4 and continued with the rest of the row untl the last 3 stitches and then done a P!, P2TOG TBL.

My row is now decreased to 49 stitches.

2nd row of the decrease

Row 4 - K4, P3, K1 * K1, P3, K1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, K3.

I have knitted K2TOG, K1 to take into account the decreased stitch in the earlier row and the new decrease and continued with the rest of the row until the final K3 which is now only 2 stitches ans then SSK to decrease a further stitch.

My second row is now decreased to 47 stitches.

Row 3 of the decrease

Row 1 - P4, K3, P1 * P1, K3, P1 * repeat until last 3 stitches, P3.

I have knitted P2TOG to replace the P4 and then completed the row after the repeat with a P1, K3, P2TOG TBL.

This is where things go wrong with the last 2 rows of decreases. I wondered if maybe I was making things too complex?

I think I've worked this out for you now -

Patt row 3 - dec row 1) P2tog, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, P1. *P1, YON, SL1, K2TOG, PSSO, YFWD, YRN, p2togtbl [49]
Patt row 4 - dec row 2) SSK, k1, p3, k1 * K1, P3, K1 * rep to last 7 sts, k1, p3, k1, K2tog [47]
Patt row 1 - dec row 3) P2tog, k3, p1, * P1, K3, P1 *rep to last 6 sts, p1, k3, p2togtbl [45]
Patt row 2 - dec row 4) SSK, P2, K1 * K1, P3, K1 * rep to last 5 sts, k1, p2, K2tog [43]
Patt row 3 - dec row 5) P2tog, p1, *p1, k3, p1 * rep to last 4 sts, k1, p1,p2togtbl [41]

If you’re working P2tog/P2togtbl at beg/end of ws rows, you need to work SSK/K2tog at beg/end of rs rows so that all your edge sts lean inwards.

Hi, I'm new to knitting (the last time I knitted anything I think I was about 9 years old - which is a long time ago!). I am starting the CHLOE cardy in issue 46 (pg 20).

I'm stuck already!!!! ......but determined not to give up.

The second tick box says...

dec one st at each end of fifth and every foll eighth row until 62 sts rem.

My question is, does it mean each fifth row and then the eighth row (so it would be 3 rows after the fifth row) or the fifth row and then do another 7 rows and then dec on the eighth row (so it would be 8 rows after the fifth)?

The more I read it the more I confuse myself!

This is probably pretty basic but I guess we all have to start somewhere, and I don't know anyone else who can knit.

Thanks

Will break it down

Firstly you decrease one stitch at each end of fifth row Row 5
then you decrease one stitch at the end of every following 8th row until 62 sts remain Row 13, 21, etc

Hope that helps you Sunshine_Susie_123

Thanks so much Ellen. Once the doubt had set in, I was completely stuck.
