I made this carrot cake loaf on saturday, which I was meant to make on friday 3rd feb. as it was carrot cake day!

Never made a carrot loaf before so, googled on it and came across a James Martin recipe to use.

Not very keen on walnuts but, they seemed to finish the loaf off nicely. Hope to make one friday/sat for church this sunday.

Half of this loaf went to friends of ours just across the road from us. We possibly couldn’t eat it all x

seville orange marmalade

Louise and Barbara were asking about marmalade on the Good Morning thread
so here is the recipe.
Seville oranges are only available for about 2 weeks in January
no fungicide on the peel, so you can peel and slice and eat marmalade from these lovely bitter oranges.
No longer bitter once in Marmalade though!

For each 1 kilo Seville oranges
2 lemons
2 litres of water
1 and a half kilos granulated sugar.
Large saucepan or jam pan
Square of muslin, or clean foot and ankle of pair of tights (to hold pips and pith while cooking,
but allows easy removal when sugar is added)

Halve the oranges and lemons and squeeze out the juice. Put in pan.

Quarter oranges, remove pith and put onto muslin square.
Any pips left in the juicer also go in the muslin.

Slice the oranges as finely as you have patience and place in saucepan.
Add 2 litres of water and leave to soak 8 -24 hours (again depends on how patient you are)
Tie all the pips and pith up into a sealed parcel and suspend in mixture.
I use fine string and tie it round the handle of the pan so I can remove it later without scalding my fingers.
(The aim is to extract all the pectin from pith and pips to help the set of the marmalade.)

Heat and cook for about 1 hour or until the slices of peel are tender.
Remove muslin parcel onto a plate (very hot just now).
Add sugar to pan and stir on low light to dissolve all the sugar.
Over the pan, squeeze out as much of the pectin as you can when it has cooled a little.
Bring to the boil and bubble til the marmalade test sets on a saucer.
I use about 2-3 drops of mixture and let it cool.
Finger test and if the marmalade wrinkles, it is ready.
Allow to cool for about 10 minutes, then bottle into clean hot jars and seal.
The wait here is to make sure the fruit lies evenly throughout the pots instead of all sitting at the top in a bunch.

Eat at breakfast next day. Yummy
1 kilo of oranges makes about 8 pound jars of marmalade.

I decorated these small pot holders and they could be nice presents with some flower pots in them. It’s never too early to get ready for Mother’s Day!

I made a lot of decorated glass cases and this one is the first in this new year. I painted a plain plastic case, add some napkin motif and quite a few layers of glossy varnish, so that it would be as smooth as egg!
experimenting with Fimo to make cogs

I saw Corinne Brad’s video recently on the CB forum here,
and thought I would have a go at making some Fimo clay cogs.
Not papercraft embellishments yet,
so thought I would post my efforts here.
The metal ones that you can buy are quite expensive.
I will try incorporating these into some of my steampunk makes soon.
Thanks for looking.
