Knit up some funds for charity!

Purl wool shop, near Seven Dials, Brighton, have come up with a novel way to to raise money for charity – an All Night Knit on Saturday 6th February. The marathon knitting session is in aid of Bliss, the national charity for premature babies.

Cast on takes place at 11pm and the devoted group of 15 knitters will be purling around the clock with the aim of making and finishing a blanket that will then become a raffle prize. The creative group are hoping to raise up to £1,000 in sponsorship funds for their chosen charity.

“One of the mums at our Thursday evening knitting group came up with the initial idea. We wanted to fins a fun way to raise money for Bliss which does such great work,” Debbie Smith, owner of the Purl wool shop, explained. “We might need to be counting balls of wall, rather than sheep, to keep us awake through the early hours! Knitting is a very relaxing process, so the key to staying awake all night will be to knit a pattern that requires a certain amount of concentration but isn't overly complicated.”

It's not just the knitters who are getting involved, the whole community has stepped up to take part. The local choir has offered to serenade the group in the early hours and they have been inundated with pledges of hot food and drinks from nearby residents.
