Bluebell jumper yarn quantity?

Recommended Posts

I really like the bluebell jumper in issue 54. But I don't want to knit it in silk (nor do I fancy the price tag on it!), so have been looking at the recommended alternative. But as the balls are a lot smaller I am unsure how many balls I would need.

The balls are half the weight and less than half the length - silk blend is 100g and 270m, alternative is 50g and 120m. Is it as simple as a bit of maths to get the same length of yarn, so 9 balls, or will it being a different weight yarn make it more complicated? - the tension square details for both yarns are slightly different to each other too.

I want to be sure before spending over £40 on yarn!

Hi Loubel,

It is a simple maths equation, I think you are making the size 8-10 which will require 9 balls of the Rico Essential Merino DK. If you want to be extra sure buy an extra ball. If your tension is different on both swatches, then change your needle size accordingly and the extra ball should account for any difference. Hope this helps
