Triple Butterfly Card
- Fold a purple blank 10.5cm x 21cm and cover the front with patterned paper. Cut a pink card 9.5cm x 20cm and glue as shown. Make three butterflies from squares of patterned paper, 8cm, 6cm and 4cm. Adapt the butterflies, using sharp scissors to trim round the wings, creating a softer shape.
- Gently lift the front and back layers of the wings so they come apart revealing the coloured underside of the paper. Cut two strips of gold wire for each length: 10cm, 8cm and 6cm and wrap one end only of each around a pencil to create a spiral. Position the wires on the card with the two largest at the top right, the two smallest at the bottom left, and the other two in the middle, creating a curve.
- Bend each pair of wires together so they touch in the middle and secure with the glue gun. Stick each butterfly over the wire so that it is showing at the top and bottom, trim if necessary. Finish by attaching one clear gem to the left of each butterfly.
HOW TO...
How to make colourful felt fabric
that can be embroidered
to create
Christmas decorations
Take a square piece of paper – thinner stock works best. Fold it from corner to corner creasing sharply. Unfold and repeat from the other corner to corner. Uncrease and fold the sheet vertically. Then turn it over so you’re working on the reverse and fold horizontally. Turn the paper back over to the right side. Push the sides of the square inwards, using the creases as a guide. Flatten the shape into a triangle.
Turn the triangle so the centre point is at the bottom. Fold this point up so it touches the edge of the shape. Crease sharply. Bend down the top layer of paper on either side so they cover the central triangle.
Fold the butterfly in half vertically down the middle bringing the wings together. Using your finger and thumb to hold the central point, open the wings. Create a crease on each wing in the middle so that a butterfly body is formed between your finger and thumb.
