Thank you - why not try one yourself - they’re fun and its like the best of both worlds and a nice break from just papercrafts, and yet less serious than a painting! wink

Actually NZC - I want someone to help me make a metal dragonfly about 3 “ big and 4-5” wingspan. Because I want to stick the butterfly on a canvas painting I have of two vases and lilies. I was thinking I might have to do it myself because I could do the patina effect on thin copper. What do you think? Would that be easy enough to do?  If I had to employ an artist to do one for me, then I would like a brass/green patina one - hopefully not too expensive!

Has anyone ever had a go at this? Some of the walls in my flat are looking decidedly bare despite the *ahem* interesting wallpaper and I was thinking about having a go. Does anyone have any ideas or tips before I go and spill paint all over my carpet wink

x

good morning. just an idea, have you tried painting an archway that looks as though you can walk through it.Put stone type blocks each side and top then you add a shaded bit on one side thin at the top and wider as it goes down, there is a french name for this tromph something that I cant remember. Then you put people or buildings or anything that get smaller in the middle which gives it depth. Works better than you imagine. Another thing I have done in the past is to paint an open window frame with a view inside. the view does not have to be detailed, but is good if you want to extend the horizon of a dark room. I agree acrylic is good, forget small tubes and get cheap sample pots from the hardware store. When I know how to work the computer I will add some illustration Josie

Made a ‘frame’ out of a brown canvas, ribbons, lace, feathers, and a sketch in charcoal.

Kalemera Renata, thank you for sending me a picture of your wall hanging.I was in Reading prior to Greece. I must get into how to put things on the site, my own walls here are almost empty, but have windows on three sides with views over the village and the acropolis above. And the sky is blue so how do you add to that?

Hi,

I havebeen ainting for too many years, or more than I can remember, and find acrylic paints are perhaps the most user friendly for decorating walls etc...the canvases you can buy these days with deep edges are good.......if you make mistakes with acrylic, you can always paint over in gesso and re-paint...just experiment with various styles, colours etc. and jsutlet the paint loosely do its own thing with largish brushes, even splattering spots of light acrylic over dark or bright colours...you would be surprised what can be achieved.....good luck...................

yes, I agree about acrylic.
since I have lived here I have tried painting Icons. Very disciplined, not like me at all
A friend has just rung to say he thinks someone has my picture and is selling it as his own.
Interesting thought.  I would be sad if the guy was doing this, or am I flattered ??
Iconography is copying an old style, but , has never been this guys style .
The beauty of being a certain age is one has seen it all before,
so I will be charitable and be flattered.

Uhmmm...not me!  I don’t think this guy is as romantic as you are, just out for a buck! How does he have your picture, do you think?

Wow I’ve just come back to this thread- there are some brilliant artists on here! Fantastic work, guys, I love the colours and designs you have all used. smile So impressed!

Maybe we need to run a painting challenge at some point! Would people be interested in taking part?

Sorry Kate - haven’t looked at this thread for ions, but that’s no excuse!  Your idea is a mixed one for me.  Maybe if it were ‘craft’ oriented...like painting wine glasses or something like how to incorporate a painting technique [into a card, journal, etc.]...I could go for that...but on the otherhand, I would feel funny trying to ‘out-paint’ someone else on a canvas, cuz its so personal in a very personal way and therefore hard to judge - which means who is qualified to judge, etc...I don’t know, maybe they have contests in paintings - I haven’t been in one.

Or maybe we’d have to try to paint in the style of someone else...that could be like a contest, but I am pathetic at that, so I don’t think I have helped you - lol!

well, FHZ he had my picture because i gave it to him, you know these barter things.
for my sins i am also a chiropodist,(amazing how many uses the scalpels have in craft work)
so out here you know no one has money at the end of the winter,
so i solved his foot problem and he was eternally grateful and offered to take my picture to the print shop and get it transferred onto canvas. that was a year ago.
anyway have now put out the message i want my picture back, i am sure it is all a mistake,
i just wanted to scream at the time at the thought of it x x
