Toast by Nigel Slater, very nostalgic the food and the life brought back memories of when my mother discovered instant mash and desserts, slicing beans into jars (I had to do that), and when you didn't tell your parents if a pervert was chasing you through the woods for fear of getting into trouble!
The Traveller by John Twelve Hawks - if you like the Matrix, and The Da Vinci code type of books you will like this. All about big brother being used by baddies, goodies protecting travellers, and I can just guess a sequel will be out soon!
The Colour of Magic, Terry Pratchetts first book in the series on discworld. A very funny read, but turns a bit strange at the end with naked men and women riding dragons!
Reading now - John Grishom, Painted House. I like this writer but this book is like nothing else I have read by him. Poor cotton farmers and their hired hands, gritty life, and gossip. I am half way through this book and it is a good read.
hi,
I've read Memoirs of a geisha and Labyrinth in quick succession and I'm now ploughing through HP and the half-blood prince - not as good as the others.
I too always feel that I have to finish a book, no matter how bad.
Maureen Lee - good read too! Lyn Andrews also writes a lot about Liverpool - the Sisters O'Donnell is one of the best.
My craft mags. get a good battering as well, when I need something short and light.
I enjoy terry pratchett books and I've got Good Omens on my mp3 for when I'm knitting, and I'm reading "The Naming Of the Dead" by Ian Rankin. I met Ian Rankin a few years ago before he hit the big time, and he's a really nice guy, keen to encourage other aspiring writers.
anyone else met an author?
Just finishing:
Iron Kissed ,book 3 in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Just started this morning :
Rogue -the follow up to Stray by Rachel Vincent
Currently reading The Two Of Us, My Life With John Thaw by Sheila Hancock, I've shed some tears reading that, also I'm reading John Barrowman biography, and one on Elizabeth Taylor and the last HP book which I'm finding hard to get through for some reason.
"Death of a Gentle Lady" by M C Beaton. It's the latest in the Hamish MacBeth series.
"Sing As We Go" by Margaret Dickinson....wartime story.
Both good reads.
I have just read My siters keeper by Jodi Picoult, she make you really think.
I also love the sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind, if you like Terry Prachet you will like these. they are great.
Blood Bound -Patricia Briggs -book 2 in the Mercy Thompson series ,I finally managed to get my mitts on a copy! I started with book one-then hopped to book 3 (thank you amazon market place) Its slightly odd reading in the wrong order nevertheless a good read-almost halfway through at this point
I've also started The Innocent Man by John Grisham.I bought it ages ago as a part of a 3 for 2 deal in Easons, and hadn't touched it! I was sitting at the kitchen table this morning waiting for Jaxie to finish his breakie, and it was peaking out from under the table (I have a big wicker basket with unread/just bought books in it -sad I know) and I started it-its his first non-fiction work and it just pulls you in.Very impressed so far
