Hi all,

I’m after advice/experiences from you all on selling your jewellery.

I’ve been making enquiries for ages with regards to selling my jewellery but seem to be going round in circles! confused

Can anyone recommend a good (and cheap!) online place to sell things? I’ve thought of Ebay, I’ve also been told of tuggle.co.uk. Has anyone got any experiences of Tuggle? It all seems very good and very professional and depending on the package you sign up for depends on the level of comission they take.

I’d preferably just want to sell to the UK and Europe to start off with!

Help anyone?? I’m driving myself barmy going round in circles!!

There was a comment in one of the threads under Planet Craft I think about a UK alternative to Etsy - I’ll see if I can find it, that was free to set-up and a fairly small commission charge.

Hi all,

I’ve searched through past forum topics and found one referring to a website called pinkdoodle.com where you can sell your goods. I’ve had a quick look and it seems ok. It seems cheaper than Ebay for example. The only question is, is do peole visit it? Like I said I’ve only had a quick look so when I have more time I’ll have a better look and I’ll contact some of the sellers on the site to see what they have to say about it.

Has anyone heard/got experience of pinkdoodle.com?

grin Hi,really can’t help you,not to good at doing jewellery yet. But I have done almost every party plan going at one time or another, even did fashion shows with a party plan. Why don’t you have a go at having parties for selling your stuff at? If your jewellery is well made and good looking and priced well, can’t see any problems as it would sell it self,if you can just get a few names along with your own,you would be away, you could do parties for charities as well, get photo in local paper. Sorry I do go on a bit,but its an idea.

I just wanted to mention that I’ve heard that Ebay is not really a good place to sell handmade items.  People are mostly on there for ‘yard sale’ finds and cheap deals.

Good luck with your jewelry!

Ebay is defnately not the way to go, I have tried it. There are so many people on there doing the same thing. The party plan is a good idea, I have held one at my mothers house - good old mum! I did quite well selling cards and jewellery and I hope to hold another soon. Good luck!

Hello,

I think to start off you need to trial a jewellery party with friends and family. Presentation is also a key factor here.

Then build up customers from here, use vista print for some free business cards and maybe get some “handmade by” stickers on Ebay to use.

If you can make little boxes for your jewellery thats great if not check out suppliers on the net for wholesale jewellery boxes.

Another simple idea is to wrap your jewellery in tissue and tie with raffia and add a little sticker to this.

Depending on how much money you want to factor into the cost of your jewellery, you could also get some brown string handled bags for customers purchases to go in. Make sure you also pop a business card or flyer in the bag and add a sticker to the outside with your company name on this.

Another idea is to contact local business and try to arrange to have a table somewhere in their premises where you can sell to staff, you would have a captive audience here also. Use pin boards to dispay earrings and necklaces and maybe have a “half price” selection. This is a little bit naughty but the “half price” section would really be full price to you, but your customers will think they are getting a good deal!

All you can do is try! Good Luck!

grin We getting lots of same messages on this thread. I agree, start with few friends and family and then you build up a data base of names and then you start to think a bit bigger. Good luck.

Someone I know of sells at her price to friends/family who then add on a few pence for themselves and sell it at work. Some of them earn quite a bit at something like 10-20% mark up on top of the price she sells at.

I have just found out today that car boot crowds are definately not the way to go when selling jewellery! I was doing a boot sale and thought it would be worth a try to take some jewellery along and have a go at selling it but people showed minimal interest and the only comments were about how expensive things were (the item in question was a £3 phone charm!). I think I may do some craft fairs and see how they go...does anyone have experience of craft fairs?

I have sold a fair bit to friends and family. My mum mentions my blog (http://chickadeecards.blogspot.com) to anyone who will listen! I have had commissions from people on another forum I post on. I can recommend parties. I had card parties when I mainly made cards and sold loads. I think that you will sell a lot if it is good value but obviously well made. When I say good value, I don’t mean cheap, but priced well to show that you value your own work, whilst not being hugely expensive.

Hope that makes sense.

Do you have a blog? If so, post on loads of other blogs and leave compliments. They will return to yours and you never know what could happen!

Hi Chickadee Cards,

Thanks for you advice. I don’t have a blog at the moment. In fact, I’m not really sre what one is!! How computer illiterate do I sound now?!?!?!? Especially considering I build my employers website as part of my job!! Anyway, can you recommend a good blog site? I think I need to get one, I’ve had a look on Blogspot as that seems to be a popular one to use.

Thanks
Michala

Yes, Blogspot is good. My blog is on there. It was really simple to set up and get started. Once you have got it all running, you can add the site counters and other things. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing your blog!
