Well Pink Punk - not 'all' history's princesses and such were lovely and there is one very infamous one, the Countess Elizabeth Báthory - very evil. I believe there is a new movie about her coming out soon. She beats Cleopatra for her hunt for beauty! She was finally overthrown - thank goodness!
I'm in Ancient History person but I do like some of the books on the Tudor Queens that have been out recently. Phillipa Gregory's stuff can be good but I do find her books to be a bit hit-and-miss, some I really get in to and others I never finish because they just don't drag me in.
I read The Other Boleyn Girl just before christmas and loved it. There was a exert from another one of her books at the back that I tried to read and couldn't get into though. Which others have you liked MentalScarcasm?
I have yet to read The Other Boleyn Girl *Shakes fist at Mum's hap-hazard approach to keeping series' together* I like The Constant Princess as it's about Katherine of Aragon, who I've always been interested in, and The Boleyn Inheritance was pretty good too. Oh, and A Respectable Trade is good, it's about the slave trade in the 17th (?) century so a bit further on from the Tudors, but still good.
Two historical novels I have enjoyed recently are Painting Mona Lisa and The Borgia Bride, both by Jeanne Kalogridis. Quite long and detailed (hopefully acurately!) but they are easy to read.
Yes! I can't wait for the film, mostly because I love Eric Bana who's playing Henry! And Natalie Portman (Anne) is one of my favourite actresses as well, so it's all good.
lol i was just going to say tht lol cant wait too see it, we watched the trailer and got soo into it was dissapointed when it ended lol, its a true to the book kinda film so any1 who loved the book will love the flm lol i think phillipa gregory actually helped write the script for it but im not sure lol.
has any 1 tried reading the books by carolyn meyer im a big fan of her books and have quite a collection now lol check them out on amazon you can sometimes read the look inside 1s.....
try the young royals series theres a realli good 1 on catherine of aragon before she became queen.
also if ur into the tudors theres a nice book about anne boleyn by sussanah dunn called the queen of subtelties i loved it lol .... have fun reading lol
As regards to historical books one of my fave authors is Georgette Heyer, they were written a while ago but she put so much research into them, they can be deadly serious or laugh out loud, i really loved all of them.
I like books on Scottish history, so Mary Queen of Scots, for example, is present here a number of times. I used to work for one of the historic sites in Edinburgh for a while and built up a nice wee collection of historic books back then.
try the lady grace mysteries there realli good as well lol i have read 3 this week and now am on my 4th one i think they are ment for kids but they are easy reading and something different
also try the books by mary hooper they are also very good but they are not a mystery they both write about the elizabethian era
This has nothing to do with the actual post, but everytime I skim down the forum -I keep seeing hysterical reading books and its cracking me up!!
I have visions of hardback books flapping and cackling like loons! oh I am sad!
