Crafty ways to treat your mum

There’s just under two weeks left until Mother’s Day, so it’s time to get those thinking caps on to come up with the perfect gift to show her just how much you care. But if you’re lacking in inspiration then worry not! Why not give one of these ideas a try?

Tasty Treats
If cooking’s not your strong point, then cake decorating is the perfect alternative. Buy a ready-made, plain pre-iced version from your local supermarket and let your imagination run wild. Piping tubes are readily available and can be used with icing of all colours; or sugarpaste, which is also referred to as ready-to-roll, can be used in much the same way as modelling clay to create fun designs to place on top of the cake.

Flower Power
Rather than presenting your mum with a ready-made bunch, why not experiment and create your own unique arrangements? You don’t have to use huge amounts of blooms either; simple layouts consisting of just four or five flowers can be just as effective. Place a few in an old metal watering or teapot to create a pretty, yet more unusual array.

Memory Lane
Everyone loves looking at photographs, and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to create a beautiful scrapbook filled with favourite images of happy times shared with your mum. If you’d prefer not to remove old pictures from cherished family albums, scan the selected photos onto your computer at 300dpi, touch up using photo editing software and print onto glossy or matt heavyweight paper for a truly professional finish.

Book Worm
Why not get her a subscription to one of her favourite craft mags? The only trouble will be picking which one from the huge number of fantastic titles available! If she’s a versatile crafter who loves trying out different techniques, then Crafts Beautiful or Quick & Crafty is the perfect choice. For those who are a dab hand with a set of needles and yarn, then don’t forget Let’s Knit. If she’d prefer a mag with all materials needed for the projects in one tidy package, then Let’s Make Cards or Let’s Get Crafting is an ideal option!
