Halloween Iced Biscuits (+ A Royal Icing Giveaway!)

Cooler days tell us that autumn has well and truly arrived! Schools are back in full swing and the holidays may be over, but there’s still a lot to celebrate.  Halloween is an ever popular calendar event, so why not free up your creative spirit and bake some spooky-themed biscuits with Renshaw? You could even enlist the help of your own little monsters as the icings are so easy to use!

With the extensive range of Ready to Roll icing colours produced by Renshaw, this task is simple. And now there’s new ready-made Royal Icing to make things even easier.

Use spooky cutters to prepare various biscuit shapes, then use our top tips to ice them to perfection…

Iced Ghost Biscuits

Ghosts
Colour up some Renshaw Royal Icing with a little green gel colour and pipe a thin outline on the biscuit. Set aside to dry for a few minutes. Flood the central part of the biscuit with white to form the body. When totally dry, details such as spooky faces can be piped with a little extra Royal Icing or drawn on with edible colouring pens. This will really make the figures come to life!

Iced Pumpkin Biscuits

Pumpkins
Use the same techniques to make pumpkins, this time using Tiger Orange icing. Colour up some Royal Icing to add features such as the grooves, stalk and scary facial expressions.

Iced Bat Biscuits

Bats
Outline and fill bat-shaped biscuits with Renshaw’s Deep Purple icing. Add detail (wing lines and eyes) with Royal Icing.

Iced Pumpkin Cake

If you fancy trying something a little more challenging, take a look at this wonderful pumpkin cake tutorial.

Piping icing detail is simple when you know how and have the right equipment.
Never made a piping bag before? Renshaw show you how…

Piping Bag Tutorial

1 Start with a square of parchment paper. Fold a corner over and cut with the flat edge of a knife to form a triangle. Snip off one of the points as shown – this makes it a little easier to fold.

2 With the 90° point of the triangle facing you, take the right-hand edge and fold it over until it matches up with the middle point.

3 Do the same with the left side.

4 Fold the points over twice and press down to make a neat seam to keep the bag from unfolding.

5 Snip off the tip of the bag.

6 Pop in an icing tube and fill with Renshaw Royal Icing. Roll down the open edge twice, then pipe away!

Renshaw has a colourful range of ready-to-use icings that are conveniently packed in 250g units. There are over 30 shades to choose from and it’s so easy to use. Simply open up a pack, knead a little to ‘wake up’ the icing, and you’re ready to decorate. A little dusting of icing sugar along the way will ensure it doesn’t stick to your rolling pin or work surface. The only limit is your imagination!

Renshaw Ready To Roll Icing

We’re so excited about these icing ideas that we’ve decided to give you the chance to win one of ten pots of Royal Icing! All you have to do to enter the giveaway is click here and sign up to Renshaw’s email newsletter before 29th October.

Happy Halloween!
